Summer Camp

Drawing from Life

Ages 5-9 ~ 4 afternoons, 8/12 - 8/15, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm ~ $160 (materials included)

What makes a drawing look realistic? How do artists portray a 3-D scene on a 2-D panel? In this drawing class, we’ll explore the tangible world in terms of line, shape, and color. Each day, we will begin with drawing games to warm up, then we will experiment and explore materials and themes. Drawing from observation, we will use many different materials from pencil to oil pastel to watercolor and gouache. We will even "draw" with clay! Out in the garden we will portray flora and fauna. Portraiture will have its time as well, and we will refer to the work of 19th and 20th century artists such as Kahlo, Cezanne, and Picasso to create self-portraits. On Thursday, at the end of our class time the students will curate an art show for families and friends, from 5:30-6:00 (save the date!). Throughout, we will share supportive, constructive ideas with each other in this special summer workshop. At Ilana’s home studio in Beacon.
