Spring 2022 Classes

Song and Craft

Tuesdays, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28 ~ 3:30-5:00pm ~ ages 4-6

with Beacon Craft Workshop and with the Heartstrings Kids

Tuition $150 (8 spots)

How can we use shimmery shapes and forest objects to show our feelings? What if we took clay coils and blobs and scultped our own faces? We will continue warming up our voices and stirring up cool beats and dance moves as we take our weekly journey to an imaginary music festival. In the process we'll explore mindfulness and self-expression through craft processes, from mandala making, to clay self-portrait work to edible sculptures. Ilana will lead these classes with Luke co-teaching two of the weeks. A different puppet friend will join in each week as well!

Each session, participants practice sharing supportive and constructive ideas. A light snack, high quality materials, and clay firing are all included in the tuition.

This class will be held outdoors (indoors in case of inclement weather) at Ilana’s home near the Sargent School.

Tune up! Tune Up! songwriting and design/art work with the Heartstrings Kids

Tuesdays, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28 ~ 5:00-6:00pm ~ Ages 7-10

Tuition $110 (8 spots)

How can we make melody, rhythm, and lyrics to express ourselves and create a song? If your song had a look, what shapes, lines, and images, would show up? Ilana and Luke will alternate leading this class. On June 7 and 21, participants will work with visual elements of historic and epic cover art and explore color theory to design and make an album cover and tee shirt. On June 14 and 28, participants will dig into song-writing, focusing on melody, rhythm and lyrics, all in a mindful and collaborative setting. We foster a safe and supportive creative space for each individual to access the magic of their imagination through the power of mindful music making.

Everyone will receive their own Heartstrings Songwriting Journal or continue working in the one they already have; the perfect place to privately express their emotional state & individuality through words, drawings, or any expression that helps them tap into their limitless creative potential. As a collective, we will unpack this original material & bring it to life by creating a band!

This class will be held outdoors (indoors in case of inclement weather) at Ilana’s home near the Sargent School.
