Fall 2022 Classes

Nature Fest: Music, Mindfulness, and Craft Combo

Thursdays, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov 3, 10, + 17 ~ 3:30-4:30pm ~ ages 3-5

with Beacon Craft Workshop and with the Heartstrings Kids

Tuition $170

What melody and beat is stirring in your heart? How do the autumn winds rustle your branches, and what captures your curiosity while wandering through the woods in the fall? Join us for an art and music combo for a weekly journey to an imaginary music festival, where we’ll explore nature in autumn with mindfulness, music, movement, puppetry and shared song-writing.

Each session also includes a special visit to the Art Tent for materials exploration on an autumnal nature theme. We will press forest objects into clay and learn hand-building techniques to create a wearable talisman. We will print with leaves to prepare craft paper. We will toy with pods and seeds, wire and rocks to design and sculpt nature art. On the final day of class, we ask parents to join us from 4:00-4:30 for our final fall fest!

We will provide a light snack and facilitate supportive and constructive group discussion. Materials and clay firing are included in tuition.

This class will be held outdoors (indoors in case of inclement weather) at Ilana’s home near the Sargent School.

Autumn Feast: Song Writing and Pottery Combo

Thursdays, Oct 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov 3, 10, + 17 ~ 4:30-6:00pm ~ ages 6-8 and ages 9-11

with Beacon Craft Workshop and with the Heartstrings Kids

Tuition $225

In six sessions, we design and prepare for a colorful and musical potluck feast. During our last week, Nov 17, we enjoy it as an arts community!

What food will you contribute to the potluck and what is the perfect platter or serving bowl to present that food? Each week we will learn and practice hand-building techniques to create clay pieces for the feast. We will explore historical designs for serving food and drink, and we will study ways to decorate our wares with glaze and sgraffito!

Also during those first six sessions, the children will write songs (to perform if they like) at the culminating feast. They’ll write lyrics and make melodies, create cool rhythms, and connect heart and mind. Luke of the Heartstrings Kids creates a safe and supportive microcosm for each individual to access the magic of their imagination through the power of mindful music making.

Everyone will receive their own Heartstrings Songwriting Journal; the perfect place to privately express their emotional state & individuality through words, drawings, or any expression that helps them tap into their limitless creative potential. As a collective, we will unpack this original material & bring it to life!

Our songwriting toolbox includes:
mindfulness techniques
free writing
singing/pitch recognition
lyric writing/storytelling
melodic structure/chord progressions
counting games
popular music appreciation
confidence building
